Hey guys! We now have a new film! It is an Interview with Dr. Narendra Singh, an Indian evangelist. Great thanks to him for giving up his time so I could interview him! It is highly appreciated, and I hope this video will bless those who view it.
I edited the film using CyberLink BD Solution PowerDirector Express. The text images were made in Inkscape.
The opening title is too long, I could add music to the intro/end text, and the file size is larger than optimal, but unless it causes problems or I feel highly necessary, I may leave this video as the final version.
I would re-encode it with a greater compression, but may have to do that later (hardware complication.)

I hope to edit a film some friends and I worked on together. It’s not a Minosa Films production per se, but it will really help me to learn my editing and test out whether or not I really can or cannot edit (at least with this workflow…) And besides that, I will get part one of a film done, gain skills, and make my friends really happy! ;D

OK, onto the point: I have successfully produced a very short video clip from a 720×480 (or was it HD SP?) mpeg2 video file into a final output of a 720×480 mpeg2! This may sound like “So what?”, so let me explain:
Using Rob Scott’sBunnyHopHop workflow I have used Blender 2.47 to do a minor edit to a 720×480 (or was it HD SP?) mpeg2 file with proxies, exported an excerpt of the video to PNG, optimized an AVS script in AvsP, (find the AviSynth wiki here,) ran it in QuEnc to encode the video to mpeg2, and the final result was a compressed 720×480 video with a/v in sync!

Praise the Lord! This is a big mile marker in my video editing journey!
Now I hope all my editing needs will be met by open source software and Blender, and that BlenderAVC will rise to meet the standards of editing HD in the open source world!
About BlenderAVC:
BlenderAVC is an open-source project to provide the “glue” between Blender’s Sequence Editor and video in the AVCHD format. It provides a way of automating the creation of AviSynth scripts and proxy files so that AVCHD and HDV video can be efficiently edited within Blender.
P.S. The video I tested was from a number of .tod video files through CyberLink BD: PowerDirector Express and exported to mpeg2. In future testing I may use other workflows to optimize the time spent/quality.
I have stumbled across some intriguing or otherwise inspring artwork.
For one, I wish to make note to an artist I had previously discovered: Mathias Pedersen, a young, Dutch digital artist. You can find his website here: http://www.mathiaspedersen.com/home/. But this time I came across some of his tutorials. The most facinating of these tutorials is this one:

These rules can be applied to more areas of life than beginning to learn Blender: they can be applied to much of life. Besides, now I have a good beginning spot to send eager Blender users ready to learn. “Read this 10 step outline and get back to me when you are done!” This is a good resource!
Besides that I came across Chaperon Rouge, an animated short by four collaborating students from the French school Supinfocom Arles (made as their graduating movie.) The style touches upon Final Fantasy and a tad little bit of Miyazaki. I want to create some 3D films similiar to their style (though my characters may have a different look.) They used (digital?) paintings and composited the character into them (for at least some of it.) Bravo!
On a side note, (however, an important one,) this following video has great importance to me.

Work has been done towards filming “Is This Love?”, but due to a location impasse (the location is currently set, but there are issues,) and integral script issues, it may not be soon.
Good news on that, though: longlifejas helped me find the location for “Is This Love?”. I have contacted a theater actor and he may help us with the film. So, things are moving foward in a way, but the film may drastically change at any minute.
The first episode of a short film some friends and I worked on I hope get edited sometime. I also plan to edit the interview with Dr. Narendra Singh and get that online! Whew.
I was talking to a friend, and I hope to start my own sort of animated journey like Rustboy, and just finished my first sketch for it tonight.
Yahoo! Praise God! I have made my first successful alpha texture in Blender!
What is alpha? It is the “invisible”, the transparency per se. Whatever is set as alpha, you can’t see. Whatever is a normal color, like red, green, or blue (RGB) displays in it’s normal color. With alpha you can have a complicated image (say, of a leaf,) applied to a plane. The area around the leaf will be turned to alpha. Loading the image (PNG or TGA) into Blender, you then apply it to a plane, and go through a series of steps. Finally, rendering it, you get a wonderful result:

Well, maybe not all that wonderful, but the possibilities sure are astounding!
Imagine a cutout animation, set in a 3D world! Or a tree with twenty thousand leaves – imagine it, you don’t have to model a complicated leaf, duplicate it twenty thousand times, and make your polygon count 4,000,000,000, causing your render time to go bonkers! Instead, just apply the alpha image to all your leaves (a simple plane,) and kapow! Your render time is lightning fast compared to what it could have been!
Go ahead and find out how to do alpha texturing in Blender. Carefully follow the steps. One important step that I didn’t get right is this: for any objects that you want to recieve the shadow of your alpha image, make sure you turn on TraShadow in the Shaders Panel (for the objects that are recieving the shadow.)

P.S. I have run into a problem editing the interview of Dr. Narendra Singh. When I get to a certain place in the video, the video gets stuck and he is frozen saying part of the same word. This is an error, and some fault with the program or video file. The video file plays fine, so my guess is it is Premiere. Now is the question of “Now what?!”
Well, the conversion of the .tod worked. Praise the Lord! I have converted it through Power Director Express, to the resolution of 720×480 (.avi). Adobe Premiere Pro 1.0 can’t handle HD, so with this lower DV resolution I can edit my interview of Dr. Singh!

This is great news, because it means I can start working on video with what I have now, even though I’m not doing HD yet.
I hope to learn more on how to use Blender (www.blender.org,) the open source 3d content creation suite. I may work on something in Blender soon. If mastered, I would be able to do title effects, 3D animations, compositing, and CG FX for my films. But until then, my options are somewhat limited, at least in the area of 3D animations and beautiful CG FX.
Once again, any film ideas are very welcome. We’ll see what comes…

P.S. I have also found out how to handwrite subtitles for Adobe Encore. Now I can work on the subtitles for MIG (Miracle In Gansu play to DVD,) and work to complete the project. (Previously I had tried to write the subtitles in Encore, which caused the Encore file to get corrupted. I recommend writing subtitles in a third-party app (like Notepad,) by hand, and then import them.)
It is a JVC Everio GZ-HD7, and I tested it out this evening by recording a message given by Dr. Narendra Singh, and also interviewing him personally afterwards. I recorded some additional footage of people’s conversations with Dr. Singh, etc., but I will most likely not be posting that. I hope to post both the message and the interview online sometime soon. (I recorded them in SP, though sometime in the future I may do most of my filming in FullHD.) Oh, and Dr. Singh said I did a good job, and that he would be praying for me. 😉 Praise God for that!
